We have had two of these night lights and our grandchildren love them. First thing I screwed up when it wouldn't turn on after sitting in a drawer for a couple of months and changing the batteries made no difference. I checked the battery wiring and contacts and was pretty sure the LED was less than 1 year of its 100 year life, so it was thrown away. When the replacement came I put new batteries in and they didn't work. So I tried a different set of batteries but they didn't work either. At this point, my wife asked if I had pressed the "on" button on the back of the octopus. I certainly didn't think the switch was on the bottom of the toy. Yes, it worked after I clicked the button and I knew right away that the other one probably would have worked too. So two switches. One below, one behind. A second pushbutton switch on the back toggles the appearance of the backlight.
