Review on Chemical Guys MIC_506_12 Professional Microfiber by Kevin Kue

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Faded after first wash but I still love them

WARNING! Wash thoroughly! I bought these Chemical Guys microfiber towels along with some from a company called The Rag Company (they came in black, blue, and gray). . colors.) I prewashed them all together before use to remove lint and oil from them for best performance as recommended by many microfiber manufacturers. I used HOT water as directed on the Chemical Guys package plus Tide Ultra Laundry Detergent and Oxi Clean Powder (no added fabric softener) and the Chemical Guys towels came out of the wash very discolored as shown in the photos. At first I thought The Rag Company towels had lost their color in the wash but they all looked brand new with no sign of bleeding, fading or anything else. Again, see photos for comparison. Then I thought maybe the temperature was too high, but the Chemical Guys box says the wash should be HOT. , I think the Oxy-Clean powder did the damage. I saw a review from another buyer that said their CG microfiber towels also discolored after the first wash, but that review says they used a special CG microfiber wash. To find out what was causing the discoloration, I decided to re-wash the discolored towels, and this time I added another NEW, undamaged Chemical Guys Microfiber Towel. I only used Tide Ultra detergent, no Oxy Clean powder, and again I refused The Rag Company towels. There is also no fabric softener. The discolored towels didn't get any better after washing, but the new towel I put in looked and felt like new. No damage, no discoloration. Unfortunately, due to the fact that I changed the temperature, removed other towels and washed without oxygen powder, I'm not sure what caused the discoloration. Anyway, I'm pretty sure it was oxygen powder. In conclusion, I suggest that you wash them separately, without clothes or even another microfiber cloth, especially if they are different colors. And DO NOT use soap powder. My Tide detergent seemed to work fine, but I'll buy a specialty microfiber soap instead as it's not cheap to keep changing it. I've also included photos of the detergents I used and even a photo of the Rag Cos towels I washed with the damaged CG towels. I gave it a 5 star rating because it was obviously user error. Not the towels' fault. However, Chemical Guys may not list non-powder detergents in care instructions if doing so could cause damage. BTW, new for new, Chemical Guys plush-side microfiber towels feel very similar to The Rag Cos towels, even though Rag Cos towels are more expensive. . In addition, the low-pile side of the Chemical Guys NIGHT AND DAY towels was softer than the low-pile side of the Rag Cos towels. I can return the patchwork towels and get CG towels in a different color instead. Anyway, thanks for reading, sorry for the long review but I hope this helps someone! TO UPDATE! AFTER READING SOME REVIEWS ABOUT THE RAG COS TOWELS, I FOUND THAT THEY HAVE A COLOR REDUCTION PROBLEM EVEN AFTER SEVERAL WASHES. I think it's very likely that rag towels caused the damage! I RETURNED THEM AND BUYED TOWELS INSTEAD OF CHEMICAL GUYS!
