Review on WESTEK Vintage Night Light Plug by Becky Stewart

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not bad but a bit pricey for an all plastic

I bought these because I was too lazy to install proper lighting under the cabinet on either side of my oven like I did on the other side have the kitchen (it's not high-traffic "prep" countertops anyway); I just wanted some light so there isn't always a dark hole. These really are "NIGHT LIGHTS"; they provide soft, subdued scattered light. I think if they were brighter I would complain about glare. The color is nice but they are ALL plastic. In fact, the bulb can't even be replaced - it's an all-in-one - essentially a bulb that plugs right into the wall - so if it burns out you'll have to replace the entire unit. PRO: The motion/light sensor is located on the bottom of the device. Since I want them to be "on" all the time, I was able to paint over the sensor with black nail polish, which you won't see unless you approach it and crane your neck to look underneath. PRO: It's an LED, so it always feels cool. ADVANTAGES: The lamp emits a "warm" yellow light and not the horribly bright bluish light of many other LED lights. CONS: All plastic, looks a bit cheap and the whole unit has to be thrown away when the light eventually burns out. (Remind me again that this is more eco-friendly than the '60s and '70s nightlights we grew up with that lasted forever and the only thing you've ever thrown away with an honest lightbulb is made entirely of recyclable glass and metal?)

Pros
  • Something above
Cons
  • Minor issues
