I would recommend this stone as a relatively inexpensive way to get very sharp knives. The reason I went with the 1000 and 3000 combo is because I already had golf stones and heard people had problems with knives that cut 6000+ grit stones. After I've finished sharpening with a 3000 stone I can sand it down with green abrasive paste to make it sharper if I want. However, by the time I'm done with a 3000 grit stone, the knife is already very sharp. My stones have come out perfectly flat and light enough for all of my knives. The stone is approximately 7 inches long and 2 1/4 inches wide. A small black rubber floor prevents stones from slipping. If you already have whetstones, this 1000/3000 grit stone is very useful to make your knives much sharper.
