Review on Norpro Deluxe Cherry Pitter Suction by Kevin Samuels

30 pounds of pitted cherries fast!

I purchased this item after reading the positive reviews and thought you couldn't beat the price. Although I'm now convinced that it can't get any better for the price. We opened the box, assembled it, and set about removing 30 pounds of cherries. Quite a lot of work, but this little pitter flew through it all. A few things I noticed while using it made it more successful. Some reviewers have complained that the cherries get stuck. I found that by dipping and then pulling all the way out I prevented the cherries from getting stuck. The worst that can happen is that the cherry falls back into the pit area and not into the skin. but it's easy to deal with. Don't just drop it and expect the spring action to bounce it back far enough to push the cherry off the pitting blade, if you do this the cherries will stick quite often. Pull it all the way back and they will fall instantly. (It's not hard to do, it just means holding the pencil while you pit.) I also noticed that the cherries don't always fall into the pit on their own. To speed up the process, I started the corer with my left hand and pushed the cherries aside with my right hand if they didn't roll there on their own. So everything happened very quickly. Another issue people complained about was the spray. Seriously, I can't imagine pitting a bunch of cherries in a hurry without getting some cherry juice in the OR. I put a rag under the bowl and wiped everything down when we were done, no big deal. Anyway, the pitter is great, it stayed in place (the suction cup was excellent), picked up the pits quickly and didn't crush the cherries. We love this item so much we will use it every year until we break it during cherry season.
