Review on JR Products 10825 Fold Down Camper Latch and Catch - Zinc: Secure Your Camper with Ease by Scott Clayton

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Requires changes to work.

These latches are a very exact replica of the roof and cargo box latches on my Coleman Fleetwood folding trailer, except for one major difference - they are made from much thicker steel. Original Equipment latches have a domed lug stamped through the channel wall of the frame that engages a mating latch in the arm. The frame channels on Original Equipment snaps are flexible enough to allow the channel to curve away from the tab and fit into the bracket when the latch is closed. This latch has such a big bump and the material is so hard that the latch won't close. I had to take a hand sander and sand down the irregularities of the installed transoms. This doesn't stop the locks from working as it is a center cam mechanism that stays locked without detent. But it's a pain in the neck to rub the bump (and paint) off the latches to make them work. Two stars because it's very heavy, although that's part of the problem.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • The list is getting long.
