Review on AmazonBasics Premium Cat Scratching Post by Jessica Brown

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Large and durable on beds and furniture

With new kittens (with their sharp claws) in the house, it's time to make some improvements. After looking around I landed on this particular scratching post and thought I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did. It comes in 5 pieces plus hardware - top panel, bottom panel and two bottom skirting boards. Five screws and the clamping tool supplied make assembly easier. Judging by the height of the scratching post and the height of the tethered toy, I figured it would be some time before our kittens were big enough to reach it. How ignorant I was. They bounce and stick to him like velcro! They like to grab a fluffy ball, and because it's attached to a rubbery bungee cord, they can pull it down and wrestle with it. And of course they will approach it and use it like a normal scratching post. At the time of writing this review, there are two units on sale - one with carpet, all wood trim, and a base on top. and the underside, and the ones I bought (because the carpet was sold out), plain wood (or some kind of thickly varnished masonite). climb up and sit on it, which will likely result in an ambush and other shenanigans. On the other hand, maybe it's better that they don't come up and keep trying - which maybe is part of the fun? In any case, I am satisfied with the device and would probably also be satisfied with the carpet version. One note I'll pass along is that the screws holding the base to the stand stick out quite a bit. The kit includes foam feet, but the screw heads are thicker than the foam. On the carpet this is not a problem. But on hardwood, I had to put down a towel because the unit rested on four screw heads in the center instead of foam pads on the outside. The manufacturer had to drown the holes a bit. I can handle this fairly easily and could fit four chair leg pads that would be thicker at the bottom if that were a problem. If it hadn't been for that, I would have given five starts.
