This monitor really lives up to expectations. After a lot of research and a bit of experience with ultra-wide monitors, I finally settled on the colossal Odyssey G9. In this long review I will also tell you which desktop mount I used, which is also available on Amazon, and which dp cable I used. I am currently using this monitor on an Asus GX701/2080 MaxQ. Production data is important for this particular statistic. Pre-July models MUST be shipped with a blue circular sticker advising that quality control has been retested and there may be new tape on the bottom of the box. The 8th and 9th digits of your serial number are used to determine the production date, in case anyone is interested. The "N" stands for 2020 and the number after "5,6,7" corresponds to the production month, which I'm sure will be producing more throughout the year. The importance of this data is purely statistical and the main concern for the issue could be backlight bleeding and crashes with freesync enabled. This by no means applies to everyone who has received their monitors in working order, but to those affected from the pool of collected results. I normally shy away from them, but investing north of 1,000 gets my exploratory instincts into overdrive. With that in mind, I'd like to introduce this to enthusiasts who want to put it more simply. May production dates were almost 50/50 flipped as evidenced by the packaging serial number N5. The June models suffered the most. after the pool of collected serial numbers and reviewers. (N6) July productions were least affected and research shows that Samsung has revised its quality control policies. (N7) So your chances of getting a fully functional, frameless model for the July production dates are high, and as long as the carrier delivering your package does their best you'll probably be clean. Again, the above issues are purely statistical and based on a group of Reddit contributors. Remember that negative reviews appear faster than those that have had a positive experience with a product. I am sure that many positive experiences have not been published and as of this writing 52 reviews on Amazon are not all G9 users. My biggest issue was the size of the table and after reading the specs I realized I didn't need to know much. no space for keyboard and mouse pad. I went with the desktop solution that Amazon offers and it fit me and my other ultrawide monitor perfectly with no issues. I will also write a review about it. Mount link here: https://www.amazon.com/WALI-Monitor-Adjustable-Capacity-GSM001XL/dp/B07NLMLLT6/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=heavy+duty+monitor+mount&qid=1601493145&sr=8-5 Now about the monitor itself! (Finally) Holy SH! Batman! The smallest dream is said to be like some sci-fi movies in the future, which you probably won't be able to enjoy on this monitor due to the 32:9 aspect ratio. Well, the dream has finally come true and it's awesome! Not to say this is my first experience with an ultra wide angle lens, but with a 1000r curvature it's really easier on the eye and keeps me hooked. Some say the point of view is too aggressive, but I guess everyone agrees that you're adjusting my overly critical friend. Shopping on Amazon and troubleshooting your Odyssey G9 has never been easier with this monitor. Samsung's initial settings were preset to cause ghosting, but after a quick Google search the issue was fixed and clear. (Set the Response Time to "Standard" and the ghosting will disappear). I tested the functionality with free sync while looking for any crashes or screen tears that I couldn't reproduce. I may need to do some more testing and tweak the graphics settings to try and reproduce some of the issues, but I'm starting to think this could be down to most users' choice of cable (cables are factory supplied by Samsung ). I'm by no means a cable technician, but I've done a lot of research showing that quickly replacing the cable with a better one solves these problems. HDR mode works fine, the 240hz settings for free sync (in monitor settings) work fine again with no tearing or flickering, but I don't think the current software on my GX701 or 2080 allows this monitor to function as a gsync monitor can detect, so I'll have to do more testing and updates will be provided as I dig deeper into this monitor-filled option. The main reason I chose this monitor was two things. Curve-proof and future-proof. This monitor is packed with features that are the future. Upgrading the monitor will probably be the least of my worries about other future hardware changes. I mainly use my PC for productivity and I enjoy high quality games like COD/Destiny 2 which are not as demanding as some other games on the market. This monitor is more or less perfect for my application and really sets a new standard for my home office/man cave. I am currently having a small bug but I am confident that future firmware updates will fix these issues. - Turning off the computer does not turn off the monitor. (All the monitors I've had in the past never had this problem and they were all Samsung monitors on this particular laptop). ****Fixed**** Samsung website has software (not firmware) for this monitor. Installed it and everything was back to normal, this problem has been fixed. - Gsync functionality with my current 2080 max q graphics card (laptop) does not give me gsync functionality. (pending software update from nvidia and yes my laptop has a built in gsync monitor) Regarding the cable I am currently using: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087QJ4WHR?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share 10ft cable in my laptop. sits on my left and the monitor stand on my right. There is just enough excess (preferably 30cm longer) for proper cable routing. Conclusion: I personally have no problems with the Samsung Odyssey G9. I have previously returned 1 when I bought it from Best Buy and the video showed a FedEx driver dropping my package and the production date was N5 meaning May of this year with a blue QC sticker. Didn't even bother to open it and immediately returned it for a refund. The one I'm reviewing right now is the N7 (model released in July) and I opened this package with a lot of confidence and a smile and am very happy with this monitor hence my 5 star rating. **UPDATE** It's been over a month now with no additional software downloads or changes to my hardware. Everything works perfectly. I didn't hear any crackling or light reflections. I've added some photos to help and entertain you guys of my setup!
