Having had a career in chemistry, I was aware of the usefulness of Parafilm© as a sealing tool for screw cap beakers and vials, to hold the cap in place during shipping or to provide an additional seal to to keep moisture out. Now I use it to prevent the bananas from overriping too early. The item I ordered and received was packaged in a 4 inch wide box (catalogue designation "Parafilm M PM996"). Box and product look the same From what I can remember from my lab days, I looked forward to using the tricks of the trade to handle this handy if sometimes tiresome tool. The approach was to curl the edge until the corner loosened a bit. But what I received peeled off easily, in fact the film fell off by itself. I tried to show it in one of the uploaded photos. not as flexible and springy as I remember. It should essentially stretch to twice its original length, but the material I got was more rubber-like than chewing gum. I may have received an old stock box (the printing on the box looked a bit faded) and the material was dry. over time. Towards the middle of the roll it seems to become a bit more flexible. I couldn't find any expiration date or manufacture date unless it's encoded in the barcode (third photo). Bottom line: I didn't remove the asterisk because it's still usable.
