I got this after a trip to Spain/France/Italy. Basically type E/F works for France/Spain/Germany and L for Italy. Type C works for France/Spain/Germany/Italy but as others have noted it may fit a Type E/F socket a little loosely. . That's why I got a set of 3 E/F adapters. Type C is suitable for Italy. I first went on a trip with an E/F adapter and a three-outlet power strip. We quickly filled those three sockets and I ended up with more adapters. I'll still carry an extension cord with me, but now I think it makes sense to take several adapters with you and spread them around the room. The extension cord concept created a big mess in the middle of the room trying to plug in all my phone chargers, laptop chargers, my wife's hair straightener, etc. Love the fact that these are American style plugs. I don't need to plug British tech into European sockets and these 'super versatile' adapters with all those weird sockets on the front are made to please everyone. All I need are US outlets. Also, the adapters I bought abroad didn't always accept the polarized plugs that some of my devices have in the US. Finally, I should discuss technical/security issues. European plugs are designed for safety, are properly grounded and make it impossible for children to touch hot electrical cords when plugged into a wall. In the US we seem to leave that to the Darwinists. The fact is that these adapters inherently remove all the safety features of European plugs and on top of that make it very easy to connect US 110V household appliances to a European 220V mains and thus burn, shock or cause fires. Here your safety is in your hands. For any appliance you bring into Europe, the power supply must CLEARLY state that it draws between 100 and 240 volts. If not, don't bring it. Some appliances have a 110V or 220V switch, like my hair dryer. Switch it to 220V when you put it in your suitcase. Also remember that these adapters (we're talking Type C here) don't connect the ground pin to anything. Your devices should only have plastic lids, no metal, and you should store them WITHOUT a tub or water.
