Squid bone POPETPOP with holder for birds, parrots, snails, turtles and tortoises. There were no strange smells or chemical smells at all. This comes with four 5.5" squids that fit in a 5" holder. I will say right away that the squids included in the kit are small and I had to put two so that they do not fall, fall and be flung out by my birds. However, I buy larger squid from my local pet store and they work much better with this holder. The key to making it work well is to have as many squid in it as possible. This works a lot better for me than the little bits of metal that cling to the cage bars that keep breaking. It is easy to install and that part of the leaf that slides out is not a problem for my birds. It is easy to keep clean when needed. I recommend it but don't forget to put some big squid in it.
