Review on Dorman 628 040 Universal Seat Heater by John Espindola

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great heating pads (almost TOO hot), minor criticisms of included installation hardware Knock off star

These pads are big! Installed them on my friend's car (2014 Mazda CX-5) with no problems. The instructions provided are fairly basic, but they will definitely help you find your make and model specifics and remove the padding. These seats are MUCH hotter than the factory installed ones on my '17 Outback, almost to the point where they overheat. They also heat up quickly. The installation process was pretty smooth, once you know what you're doing you can unlock two slots in one day. Now for the less important, the included pork ring tongs, I got a cheap one from Harbor Freight that worked. much better. The pig rings themselves were junk too, some didn't snap in properly and it didn't take long enough for me to completely reinstall the padding (I stole some from the second set to get through). Ordered a pack of 100 higher quality rings and it made life MUCH easier on second place. in a mini or micro fuse, does not matter, but it should be noted. Also the hole in the middle of the cushion for attaching the seat pad is not big enough. It's hard to blame them as they have to fit so many sizes of car, but you have to cut off either the heating pad or the padding to make it work. The switches also use a 20mm mounting hole, which is a fairly rare size. A 3/4 inch hole saw will do, but it's tight. All in all I would definitely use them again, but consider the cons so you don't have to run to the store or frantically order parts to get the job done like mine did!

Pros
  • Universal upgrade - This seat heater kit fits seamlessly into any car with any type of upholstery
Cons
  • Low repairability
