Review on ๐Ÿ”Œ OptiMATE Lithium 4s 0.8A TM-471: 8-step 12.8V 0.8A Charger and Maintainer for Sealed Batteries by Bart Elbrink

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Easy choice for precise charging and automated testing

I also have a more powerful Optimate 5A lithium charger and it works just as well, albeit a bit slower on larger batteries due to the lower amperage - less expensive but certainly no less functional! As with all Tecmate Optimates, you can plug in and go without installing anything, knowing you're getting a completely safe charge. In comparison to other chargers, not all pre- and post-charging tests that are carried out on an ongoing basis are often considered specific to lithium chemistry. Something lead-based chargers can't handle with lithium. Close, but no cigar. Note that "leaving" does NOT mean going to work or going on vacation. No battery with any kind of chemistry should be left unattended. Although I've seen and seen similar "Optima 2" lead-acid batteries, their general simplicity means they do a good job of charging lithium batteries. In particular, the TM471 is much better suited for this purpose than the Optimate 2. You get lithium voltage tracking, testing, low-voltage recovery, and cell balancing pulses near the end of the charge that you don't get with the lead-based Optimate 2. All voltages are closely tracked with my Fluke 87V charging process monitor, as are all my other Optimates. That's why I have more than one. :) Extensive post-charge testing (if you let it do a 12-hour long-term test) can give you an idea of problems long before bike problems leave you stranded. Hype There is no hype here. It's so nice to see a product do exactly what it says on the tin and discuss it openly in the manual.
