I have both metal and mallet softeners. I even made them at a metal shop many years ago when I was in high school. This is by far the coolest and best tenderizer I have ever owned. The flat round plate is double sided giving a flat surface and a pointed surface. The grip is very comfortable and allows for precise control, which is not possible with a long grip. It processes chicken or beef quickly and is very easy to use. Be sure to take good care of your chopping/cutting board to avoid cracking.
