This is literally the best ring compression tool I have ever seen. Yes, that's .030 more for 4" pistons than standard, and it's pretty expensive considering you can get a wrap-around ratchet compressor for under $10 and a decent multi-ring pliers for under $100. If you're going to do a job and put a few thousand into an engine, it's not expensive to have the right tool for around $35. I don't think you will break a piston plate or ring with this compressor. My restoration project is a Ford 351CI Cleveland engine. I first tried the old backup compressor ratchet and wasn't happy with how it worked. I was afraid I would break the bottom or the ring so I stopped trying this tool. Forged moly pistons and rings are over $75 each so I thought I'd give this supercharger a try. Yes this compressor says it is for a stud head which worried me before I got the compressor Below is a ring that fits into a slotted ring machined around blocks with new style spikes. On the machined ring on my block, once the piston is far enough into the compression sleeve to compress the rings, the tool aligns perfectly with the cylinder bore, so there is no alignment problem. Move the compressor as you push it down, lubricate the bushing and piston with some oil and the piston goes pretty much straight into the bore. The rings are compacted by the conical walls of the tool. I take my hat off to the developer! My money was well spent.
