Used it for a couple of medium length runs (8-13 miles) and love it. I took a medium size and it fits snugly around my 5ft 8in height. Annoying bouncing or rubbing has not occurred so far. It actually comes with two front water tanks, which I don't understand. I bought them separately so now I have 4 of them. The ones that come with the kit don't have drinking straws/straws, but after fitting them with both types it gets a little unwieldy with a bunch of whistles hanging around everywhere. You can do this by tilting your head and squeezing water into your mouth. Just make sure all air bubbles are removed as this will reduce water bouncing and sloshing. It's getting a little warmer, even for temperate San Francisco weather (mid 60's). Just wearing a tank top and this vest was a good compromise. If you wear long sleeves I can see that it gets a little uncomfortable. I think the bag concept could use some innovation. If there was something reserved just for his phone, keys, or wallet that would prevent him from throwing himself into one of the big pockets and trying to fish something out, that would be nice. I usually walk with a few rocks, cell phone, ID, keys. It's ok since I don't use anything other than blocks when running, but it's worth paying attention to the product development team. When I first used this, I filled the rear reservoir (sold separately - 1.5). liters) and two front tanks for a 13 mile run... ended up with too much water and I felt the weight first. Just a liter (two front bottles) lasted 13 miles in moderate temperatures. Customize it to suit your needs. I haven't used this at all on day trips, but it will probably work fine. There is plenty of space in the rear trunk for all the needs you need for day hikes.
