Review on πŸ”¦ Enhance Visibility on Ford / Mercury Models with Dorman 68163 License Plate Light Lens by David Will

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Not 100% identical to the original part but managed to get it to work

This part is identical to the original Ford part except for the transverse hole on the back where the lamp base fits. The OEM version has two small notches or tabs with small tabs in the plastic, spaced 180 degrees apart, that act as stops when you rotate the lamp base to lock it onto the connector. These retainers were absent from this part of the Dorman. This was the only problem I noticed. It took me a few tries to find a sweet spot where the lamp base felt reasonably secure without popping out when fitted into this new lens. I'll do a test in the next few days to see if it stays in place. A slight redesign by Dorman would have made this replacement part the perfect fit. I tested the original Ford part and it was very easy to install and remove the lamp base from the lens without fiddling with it many times as it has brackets. I would only recommend buying this product to those with good mechanical skills and experience. You can refuse this product if you expect the parts to fit perfectly right out of the box. Contrary to other reviewers who reported that the lens was loose after inserting it into the bumper, mine fitted perfectly and wasn't loose at all. I believe those that have a loose fit when fitted to the bumper may have a worn hole in the bumper, not a bad part. Update - although I had to fiddle with the lens to keep it in place, it stayed in place and worked well so I'm updating it to 4 stars. I just can't justify 5 stars with the excessive time it takes for it to work.
