I first bought these for my 19 month old girl but they didn't give her enough support. She kept leaning forward and had trouble keeping her head above water (she could probably learn to do that, but in the meantime I bought a Stearns Puddle Jumper Deluxe life jacket and it worked so much better for her straight away that I just let her hold Stearns) . I tried the wings on my 6 year old average weight and build (I know they are for babies but surprisingly they worked great for him). He can't swim yet and was afraid to let go of the handrails with the standard 5 layer foam back pool float. With those wings, he immediately entered and swam everywhere, then started diving and playing ball. The pool lifeguards said that as they could potentially deflate he should also carry a foam float on his back (I chose the one with only 2 layers of foam) which suited me as it didn't seem to weigh him down and allowed it him my hands free for the baby. They gave him enough support to feel secure but still very agile. All you have to do is watch your child like a hawk to make sure they don't undress and drown. The material quality and construction is great, looks like it will hold up for years to come. Because they deflate, they're easy to pack up for your vacation trip.
