This review is for a 2" x 4" mold. I'm sure you already know this, but it's used to make washers or bricks from whatever material you're going to use for heat dissipation. The mold itself is of good quality and is 100% metal. Everything fits together very well. With a closed press, there is no gap between anything. You can put a piece of paper in it and you can see the gap, so this thing will be very close to things. The plates hardly move from side to side. One thing I really like about this preamp is that once you've made your puck you know it's going to be about the same size even after the heat is over. This way you can better plan the amount of psi you need for the extraction since you know the rough surface you will have. The most important part of using a pre-compression mold is not to press it to the full pressure your press is capable of. Use maybe half of the total psi. If you push it all the way down you will end up blocking the oil paths and you will likely hamper your performance and end up with less than you should have. There are two sides of the fence here as to whether or not you should use this form. Some people find that preforming is necessary because it ensures there are no air gaps in the bag and helps make a better product. In general, you want enough pressure to create a puck and no more. Others believe that by breaking the material before hot pressing, you will break the heads of the trichomes prematurely and end up with a poor quality product. Everyone has their own opinion on this topic. I've seen about a 5% increase in productivity when using prepress. Doesn't sound like much, but it really is. In the long run, this offers many advantages over not having it, and is essentially just a free product that allows you to spend a little time pre-pressing your material.
