We used this to replace Thermador, which appears to have been set by monkeys, with a saber saw. The only good part of the previous setup was the external 8 inch fan. Due to the awkward location of the previous vent on the right, a few inches above the shelf and right through the stud, I had to use a semi-flexible duct. rotate 90 degrees almost directly away from the adapter and slightly forward, and then continue rotating more than 90 degrees to meet the external vent. The harsh 90 degrees was too long to fit in the space. Even with the weird air duct it still works very well. Total mileage is about two feet, which likely helps with the poor cornering caused by the previous install. The old Thermador was so loud and unbalanced you could hear and feel it almost all over the house, this hood is maybe a tenth louder and we don't feel any vibrations One thing they could do to make life easier for men is, Mark the screw holes on the template and then mark the screw locations on the inside. The bolts don't hold much of the hood either, so I'll reinstall one at a time and use washers to expand the bearing surface. For the rear screws you need either a very long screwdriver or even better a very long bit on a cordless screwdriver. I ordered a foot length piece to go past the fan to the rear mounts. You can also use self-tapping screws if you need more support. I replaced what was left of the top shelf with 3/4" plywood, so four screws is enough for me.
