Review on Protective LensCoat LC702002BK Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS II Lens Cover in Realtree Max4 by Adam Kowalski ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The quality exceeds all expectations, I recommend to buy.

For over a decade, I've relied on the Canon EF 70-200 mm f/4 L USM, first with the 50D and later with the 5D Mark II and 5D Mark III, and each time I've been pleased with the results: sharp images, quick autofocus, the need for a tripod when shooting in low light, and the inability to blur the background as desired due to the lens' relatively small aperture (f/4).

Pros
  • Fast focusing despite weighing only 1.5 kg; Predictable distortion and vignetting; Excellent color reproduction; Excellent plasticity and contrast; Excellent sharpness across the entire focal length range (even at f/2.8 - it really works, albeit with not exorbitant sharpness); - low levels of chromatic aberration (5 low dispersion lenses and 1 fluorite out of a total of 23); - two modes on the superb stabilizer let you to shoot "handheld" in low light; - durable (metal and glass), watertight construction.
Cons
  • instead, this fantastic lens's features: Cons: - heavy, especially when paired with 1Ds Mark III (a set almost 3 kg. ); - slightly "green"; - pricey filters (77 mm); - decently "plants" the battery (focused on a kilogram of glass and a working stabilizer); Taking shortcuts on this lens is not an option; they are absolutely necessary.
