Review on Belkin F4U110Bt Thunderbolt Upstream Transfer and Charging for 3840X2160 by Marshall Thibeaux

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Nothing bad. May work for some but has some design flaws

I bought this docking station for the Macbook Pro 15 2017. It generally worked, but here's what I noticed: Pros: - reasonable range of ports - support for 2 4k@60Hz via DP and HDMI (one each), which is reasonable these days - gigabit ethernet - no unreasonable number of outdated USB - A connectors - current throughput Disadvantages: - hard-wired cable to the computer is too short and a bit "hard" - "star" design. Several cables come out on each side. Because of this, it's difficult to hide behind a screen or next to a wall. - Power Through somehow registers as only 45W (compared to the advertised 60W) on my 61W Apple Box. This may be a design limitation and probably my oversight. - unnecessary audio connector. This is surprisingly annoying on a Mac because you can't just turn it off and it quite often interferes with the selected audio output. use case

Pros
  • Belkin has been alerted to potential issues with external monitors not waking up when connected to the Thunderbolt 3 Dock on 2019-2020 Intel-based MacBook Pro computers running Big Sur version 11.3 (or earlier). The issue requires a full shutdown of the MacBook. We haven't seen this issue with the M1-based MacBook and are investigating the issue with our technology partners to resolve it quickly. To reduce the frequency of the problem occurring, ensure that your PC fully wakes from sleep mode before docking or undocking it.
Cons
  • The monitor takes too long to turn on.
