Review on XFasten Professional Blue Painters Tape 3/4 Inch x 60 Yards (3-Pack) - Clean Release Wall Trim Tape for Sharp Lines and Residue-Free Artisan Grade Finish by Matthew Ciula

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A Good Grade of Tape, but not 1/2 " Wide

The tape is great in terms of adhesive and toughness. It will stick and release, and reapply several times without leaving adhesive behind. I've only left it in place for less than 24 hours, so I can't comment on what it might do if left in place for a long time. Unless it's the end of the day and getting too dark, I normally apply it, paint a thin coat of whatever color I'm sticking it to on the edge to seal the edge, and then once dry I apply the second color and remove the tape well before the paint sets up. I have not tested it by just applying it and painting a new color up to it as I have found no tape will make as clean a transition as painters tape will if you seal the edge first, so that's the technique I always use.Why four stars and not five? Because this 1/2" tape isn't 1/2" wide. it's 7/16" exactly. Why does that matter? Well, if you're wanting to apply exactly a 1/2" stripe, you can't. I'm not into stripes, so this doesn't matter to me, but it might to a stripe person. Having it be a tad narrower than it's supposed to be also doesn't provide quite as much protection against inadvertantly painting across to the other edge. I found I had to be a little more careful when painting a ceiling up against a crown molding that had a 1/2" step down. having tape only 7/16" wide allowed about 1/16" of the corner of the crown to be exposed to an errant brush stroke. Fortunately there weren't any of those bad enough to tough the edge of the crown, but it does mean you have to move a little slower. Finally, as expensive as painters tape is, that missing 1/16" in width per roll also means you lose 6/16" or 3/8" width in a six-pack, which is almost enough tape for another roll, so you're paying for most of a roll that you're not getting.Bottom line: this is a good grade of painters tape, but it's not 1/2" wide and it should have been about $2.50 less expensive for the tape you're paying for and not getting.

Pros
  • Suitable for office use
Cons
  • The tape might not stick to surfaces that have been sanded.
