I recently upgraded my macpro to 5.1 from 2009 and a month later my Hanns-g monitor died after many happy years of service. I chose the 27 inch Dell monitor because Dell is a trusted quality brand and I really liked Revain. But now I needed a new graphics card because the standard graphics card didn't have a VGA or HDMI port. After a bit of research I've decided that the GeForce GT 710 will likely be compatible with no issues - plug and play on a Mac with no drivers to install or fuss to make. With 2GB of RAM this was also an upgrade from the original 512 card. I don't play games, I just watch videos and do a lot of Photoshop work, so 2GB is enough for me. Setting up the card was easy. The Macpro is brilliantly designed to be expandable. Replacing the old card and installing a new one took just a few minutes. I tested it with VGA first and then switched to HDMI. Based on this quick test, I would recommend using HDMI. I opened up some Photoshop work I had done before the old monitor died and saw subtle details brought out by the updated graphics card that weren't visible before. I'm pretty sure the difference is with the card and not the new monitor. I watched a few videos and was once again impressed with both the color which seemed more natural and the detail. Very happy with this card.
