As you can see in the photo I have removed the straps and cut off the strap rivets. I don't think the straps really work, but the clogs hold up without any problems. I have a wide foot (males) so I went 1/2 size up and they fit comfortably on bare feet. If you have a wide foot (EEE+) and want to wear socks I would recommend going up 1-1/2 sizes. They used the same mold for these clogs as their vented model (rim holes) but simply left the holes filled in. This non-ventilated model makes you a little "sweaty", but not bad. On the positive side, I can walk on a sandy beach without sand getting in, and I can also walk on wet grass and still have dry feet. I've been wearing these types of EVA foam clogs for 20 years and would love to find quality clogs without the silly straps and rivets. And while they're a lot more expensive than they used to be, the convenience is worth paying for, and a minor change to them is still an acceptable compromise to get what I want. These are my casual/beach shoes now and I'll probably go up a size to get one for winter that I can wear with a sock. But I have very wide feet. A 1-1/2 size increase is perfect. I can still wear the smaller size (1/2 size larger than my actual foot size) and will probably use it for swimming, but the larger size is perfect for walking in most situations. And no more wet grassy feet with these clogs as they don't have side openings!
