I bought two of these. One for an approximately 7'x9' rug and one for a 2.5'x10' runner. Both are on vinyl plank floors. This works great for our larger rug; it doesn't move around at all. The runner, however, is giving me issues. The runner is too light and although the pad doesn't slide around on the floor at all (rubber side down, of course), the rug slides around on the pad. I'm constantly having to pull the runner around and adjust it. I think I'm going to need to find some sort of adhesive to bind the rug to the pad. Just annoying that it doesn't grip the actual rug adequately.Obviously, this comes in different thicknesses, so if you're looking to really cushion, get the thicker one. The 1/4" isn't going to add much, but I have a grippy 1/3" and a non-grippy 1/2" from the same brand in our home, and both are quite soft. If you want soft, don't skimp.
