As mentioned by other reviewers (returning from allergy issues, comparisons made etc) it is suspicious if it really is MERV 12. On the light table compared to the new Honeywell MERV 8 they appear exactly the same in size and pattern bright flashes of light between the fibers. But compared to another brand's MERV 12 equivalent at Walmart, they look like they're letting in much larger particles. Believe me, they can be popular because they are Wirecutter's best choice. These filters have the features listed which are so decent for such a low price. But I'm not sure if the manufacturer's claims are honest or tested on the currently commercially available MERV 12 filter pack. of course if they resell the same filter for different MERV ratings.)
