Review on πŸ’‘ Chrome Gooseneck Bedside Reading Light - 3W LED Wall/Headboard Mounted Lamp with Switch for Art Gallery Display (Plug-in) by Molly Gordon

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The lightbulb burned out after a year. But I found a replacement for him!

I liked everything about this lamp. until a year later the pear became weaker and weaker. Within 10 days it became a faint glow. It uses a soldered wafer board which I initially thought I couldn't replace. But a quick search on Ebay and I found: Cree XB-D 3w LED. $4.95 (including shipping from China). You need the Soft-White (3000k) version, size 20mm. Unfortunately you'll need a small soldering iron, flux and some dexterity to replace it (not to mention the 3 week wait for a slow boat from China!). But if you're so inclined, the waffle light is held in place with two tiny wires. Simply unplug the bulb, unscrew the lamp head (just unscrew it) and there you have it. Solder each tiny wire (accessible from the front of the bulb), remove the old bulb, insert the new bulb, melt the wires, bend the wires in place, heat. All in all a 10 minute job. Otherwise you will have to throw away the lamp and buy a new one. By the way, if you decide to have a flexible reading lamp in bed, I suggest that you consider where you are going to mount the lamp (headboard or wall?) as this will determine how accessible the lamp's on/off switch is in bed . Often you don't have to turn on the lamp until just before bedtime, so that's not a problem. Once in bed, however, shutting it down can be unexpectedly annoying (depending on where the switch is). Some lamps (like this one) have a button on the head for easy access (I really like this design). Mounted on the side or back of the headboard, this lamp design forces you to turn around to find the cord and fumble for the switch. it's just not a pretty way to call it a day! Finally, some designs put a switch at the base, which might seem like an easy place to get to, but it entirely depends on where you place it in relation to reach. Just something to consider. :)
