Review on Maximize Indoor Air Quality with Air Care 20X30X1 Electrostatic Washable Air Filters by Maurice Stavros

For several years I wanted to replace my pleated air restricting filters with a fan/heat pump friendly filter and finally bit the bullet with this electrostatic version. Having no experience with such filters, I didn't know what to expect and was dismayed to find that there was a hiss coming out of the return register at maximum fan speed. Knowing I could never endure this new noise, I immediately envisioned the return of the filter. Fortunately, however, my MacGyver instincts kicked in and I found that lifting the filter tab drove the whistle out. So my solution was to place two parallel 3/8" weatherstrips that I had on hand over the bottom of the register return housing, thereby prying the filter open. Therefore no whistle, no return of goods. Afterword: I deliberately didn't look at the reviews for this product before purchasing it and realized that I would never buy anything if all the negative reviews were to be believed. But before posting this review, I decided to search through the previous comments first and found two, one of which said the filter probably just needs tweaking; I agree!
