Review on Sony SRSX2 Ultra Portable Bluetooth Speakerphone Portable Audio & Video by Brett Morrison

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I should have asked a more specific question.

I bought this speaker because Sony support answered my question if it would work with a Bravia TV and said it would work with a TV. I bought another speaker and sent it back because it didn't work with the Bravia. Although I've read reviews that only mice work with the Bluetooth Bravia, I figured maybe something had changed since Sony support said it would work. After exchanging several emails with Sony support, they conceded that this only works when connected to a TV via a wired connection. That wasn't the use case I needed it for. Although Sony support did not recommend using a Bluetooth transmitter, I bought a Tao transmitter to try with the speaker. The combo works well with a slight lag, which isn't something to complain about in our use. Now we can turn on the TV at a volume that's convenient for me, and my wife can reach the volume she needs to hear clearly. The speaker works well, high and low frequencies are clear, there is no distortion at the volume we used. It pairs with the Tao with ease, although it sometimes requires re-pairing after both have been powered off. Management is easy. I've wavered between 3 and 4 stars based on my experience with Sony support, but I'm giving it a 4 because it's well made, works well and sounds good. The fact that my question wasn't as specific as it probably should have been, and Sony's answer wasn't the best, shouldn't detract from the speaker and its performance.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Little things
