This connection relay allowed me to connect my interconnected Kidde smoke detectors as an input to my SmartThings home automation system using a modified device type handler and a regular Z-Wave contact sensor with external contacts . . With this configuration, if one of our fire alarms goes off, SmartThings will send an alert to my phone and turn on all automated lights by nightfall to make leaving the house safer. Kidde's product is simple: a dry contact power supply and relay that connects in parallel with existing compatible smoke alarms. Simple and to the point.
