I built an old house when the kitchen house was a separate building. A few years ago I asked a mason to recreate a chimney with a modern hearth using original bricks. Then I had the wild idea to cook food in the kitchen. I watched a few videos, bought this grill along with a dutch oven and hosted a group of friends for an 18th century meal. I found out you cook over charcoal, not wood, and this grill was perfect. I burned some hazel stems and scooped out a pile to put the grill on, the legs were just the right length and everything was appetizing. In this picture I'm grilling a leek and you see a Dutch oven with a meat pie in it. I roasted the leeks until the outer leaves were charred, then removed them, peeled off the charred bits and served sliced with olive oil, salt and pepper. She has also grilled bratwurst and also grilled mushy peas. Very strong. The perfect size for my needs and it will last a lot longer than I did. I'm looking forward to the assignment in May. Good product.
