Review on Logitech G430 7.1 Gaming Headset with Mic - Model 981-000536 by Chad Dahl

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great sound, not designed for big heads

PROS: The sound quality is good and clear! The surround sound is very nice (requires use of the included USB sound card) and adds to the immersion in games that support surround sound. The quality of the microphone is on par, but for most programs you need to set the microphone volume in the operating system to 98-100 percent (much lower than this figure, and speech recognition starts to drop in most chat programs). The cable is long (VERY long) and has velcro for control. The inline volume control and mute button is a huge plus! CONS: Aside from having to disable mic feedback in the playback device settings, the only real downside I have to say about this is the build quality. The part where the cups attach to the headband is notorious for tears. Once cracked, it's only a matter of time before the entire plastic panel falls off and you either contact the warranty department or buy a new pair. I had to replace mine once under warranty and my new pair are already cracking. I had the first pair 6 months before they broke completely and the new pair was not even 2 months old and already ripped. I'm not an aggressive gamer, so I don't scatter the headset. I even hang it carefully on the edge of my desk where it will be safely stored when not in use. I think it's just because of how big my head is. The headband itself isn't adjustable for wider heads, while the earcups are adjustable for those with larger heads, which I think is a design flaw. In the attached pictures you can see where it is broken and where it is torn. This stress point is most likely caused by poor link design.
