Great for kids, great for original toys and gags
We got it for $12 and it was worth it. My 11 year old was a good learner and could do tricks with ease. I would say it would work for a kid aged 8+ as some of the tricks are messy or a bit more difficult but overall I'm very happy with it. So if your expectations of realistic "magic and illusion" are at a child's level, you'll be happy. Don't expect anything overwhelming, just cute and funny.
