Review on Enhance your Viewing Experience with the ViewSonic VG2230WM 22 Inch Widescreen Monitor – Crisp 1680X1050P Resolution, Wide LCD Screen by Eric Crenshaw

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great monitor (if your graphics card supports 1680x1050)

Overall, after 2 months of using the monitor, I am very satisfied with it. So don't take Kon too seriously. I just get really picky as I get older! Pros: - Very good picture IF resolution is set to native 1680 x 1050. My original card (with dual monitors) only supported this mode when using a VGA cable. But I wanted to use a DVI cable to get the best quality. The new $50 card did it. Built-in speakers are a great last resort if all you care about is saving desk space. The FLAT BLACK finish is much less distracting than the other (more expensive) model's glossy "Black Mirror" finish. The only limiting factor is the position of the cable - it allows for a full 180° left and 180° right rotation. Cons: - You MUST lower the brightness to reduce edge flare and improve black quality. - Very bad documentation. For example, I had to call support to find out how to switch between VGA and DVI inputs. (Yes, you can connect 2 computers to this monitor at the same time as long as one uses a VGA cable and the other uses DVI) Turns out the bottom side button toggles between them. (if you are NOT in the menu!) - Very bad labeling (and placement) of the 5 control buttons. The ergonomics are very bad. If you don't speak braille, hitting the side buttons without a clear idea of where you are vertically is a chore. At least the top button (mute) has a different shape. If the 3 and 4 keys are shaped like up/down arrows, you might have a chance. I had the monitor for a couple of weeks before noticing tiny indentations (black on black) which should give you an idea of what the buttons are for.

Pros
  • Very good for the price
Cons
  • No paint required
