Review on πŸ“Š Enhanced Accuracy and High Resolution of Mitutoyo 530 in 316 Stainless Steel by Tim Beckett

I have owned this Verneir caliber for almost a year and a half. Pretty accurate

I have owned this Verneir caliber for almost a year and a half. The device is quite accurate. I must add that the caliber is fairly easy to read and reliable in operation. After use and washing with oil and smearing with soap and water the caliber started to rust which is unusual for a Mitutoyo product even for a caliber at this price point as the cheaper ones didn't have this problem. "HOWEVER", unlike other Mitutoyo products, it didn't come with a test certificate, which is again unusual for a vernier at this price point and especially from Mitutoyo. I've even looked at cheaper electronic gauge calibers that are almost as accurate from smaller companies, and they came with foam-lined plastic cases to protect them when not in use. This vernier came with a useless nylon bushing that offers no protection and makes it difficult to slide the tool into the toolbox when moving it. More importantly, this product has little slip resistance unlike other Mitutoyo products and some of the cheaper calibers I've tried. This isn't a huge issue when using it, but it certainly doesn't offer the best user experience like other Mitutoyo products. In short, if you're only interested in an analog vernier caliber that's reasonably accurate, then fine. although the price for the mentioned problems is a bit high. This is if you do not care about the inspection, the lack of a protective cover and the rigidity of the slider. While smaller names can offer slimmer calibers with much the same exact case, there's always a chance of getting a product that isn't as good or not as reliable from smaller brands. you have a choice

Pros
  • Check, measure and inspect
Cons
  • Large and bulky
