Review on Shop Fox D3031 18-Inch Full Ext Drawer Slide 100-Pound Capacity Side Mount, Pair by Joe Drew

I was building a non-furniture grade storage cabinet with two drawers. Usually, I just buy what I need from a big-store, almost always buying "full-extension" like these. I decided to try these and they were okay. But, I don't think I'll use them again. On the plus side, these are very beefy, especially for the short, 12 inch, pair I used. The quality was good.They are "symmetrical" so there isn't a "left" and "right" set. I'm not sure that this is a plus because I think it precludes any kind of "self-closing" feature. I don't expect fully self-closing from this type of slide, but, it would be nice if the slides pulled themselves in somewhat. They do have a "locking" feature. That is, after you push them fully closed, you have to exert some amount of force to pull them out again.I was somewhat disappointed that no guidance was provided as to side clearance and setback. I arbitrarily allowed 1/32" on each side. But, with shop tolerances being what they are for a hobbyist woodworker like me, I'm not sure that was enough. The drawers are somewhat hard to move and I think I'm binding the bearings by not having enough side clearance. One could always leave more and then shim if necessary. You can't setback any or the slides will not fully lock with the drawer closed.Lastly, I had some trouble installing the drawer in the cabinet after all slide parts were installed. This was because one of the cabinet side bearing races didn't want to engage with the mating drawer slide part. The fix was to hold the bearing race in place as you install the drawer, somewhat difficult, but okay. Perhaps this difficulty was related to not having enough side clearance.If you're going to use a lot of these slides, it may be worth the time to "mock up" a drawer to ensure that clearances and drawer operation will be okay.
