When I was a teenager, I always saw this type of clamp for sale at Harbor Freight. When I accompanied my father when he visited her, I always played with brackets. I openly confess and admit that I broke one of these by opening and closing it. And I've come across a few in that time that were already broken. When I saw these, I decided to study them. I was appalled at the first inspection. These clips are thin molded plastic pieces with pivoting jaws, the same cheap ones I've seen at Harbor Freight. While the jaws of some of the larger clamps align well, many of the smaller clamps and the rest of the larger clamp jaws do not align well. Use these clips a few times and examine them closely and you can see that there is a distinct difference here: the plastic these clips are made of is a strong resin, hard enough for the clips to do their job , but flexible enough to absorb some wear and tear from constant use. The ones I saw at Harbor Freight were hard, brittle plastic. I've only used a few clips from this set a few times so I can't comment on their durability. But for the simple tasks I use them for (holding two small pieces together to allow the glue to set, etc.) they work well. I showed these clips to my dad and he quickly noticed that the largest clips in this set have serrated jaws so they can grab round objects with some aggression. Since all of these clips are plastic except for the springs, I wouldn't subject them to excessive force or heat. I was thinking of using small solder terminals, but I think the plastic melts easily even at lower soldering temperatures, especially due to its resinous nature. And while I pointed out that the properties of the resin make these clamps physically stronger, I still think that the hammer appearance makes them easy to break since no part of the clamp (other than the surfaces of the jaws) is hard. Hence the title of my review. As long as you use these clamps in the right context, I think they'll work just fine for a decently long time.
