Review on Tripp Lite 4-Port Desktop KVM Switch with USB and VGA HD15 (Model B006-VU4-R) by Daniel Woods

Short story If you want a great 4 port KVM, buy this one as it's small and very solidly built. On the plus side, if you want it to work with a wireless keyboard and mouse, order IOGEAR's wireless keyboard and mouse combo (model GKM552R). Long story I had an IOGEAR 4 port KVM switch that I really liked because it had physical switches to choose a computer from. and scan (hotkeys are hard to remember) and it just worked great. The bonus was that it worked great with my HP Elite wireless keyboard and mouse, and as far as I know that's just luck as wireless keyboards and mice don't play well with KVM. Well in the end the mouse didn't work and later on the keyboard keys started to glitter and I thought no problem I'll upgrade the keyboard and mouse with the new HP Elite II keyboard and mouse. Well, it doesn't work with KVM, so in my testing I found it was the IOGEAR KVM that failed, but after years of faithful service, no big deal. So I ordered the Tripp Lite B006-VU4-R 4 Port Desktop KVM. I really liked the switch (USB), apart from the lack of a physical scan button. The bad news was that when I tried to use the HP Elite II keyboard and mouse, they didn't recognize it no matter how hard I tried. I had to use an old Elite keyboard and Microsoft Arc mouse via a separate USB dongle, but this limitation had a literal reboot that made noise like I'd disconnected the USB from the device I was switching from ( aggravating). Finally, let me tell you about computers connected to KVM. These are a Dell Desktop OptiPlex 980, a 2007 Mac Mini (yes, old and in the process of being replaced) and a Lenovo ThinkPad T430s with docking station. Everything is working fine as I write this.
