My brother and husband are tall men and often have to ask flight attendants for extension cords and one day they forgot and couldn't put on their seat belts. I ordered an extra for myself; I can usually attach the straps, but once I couldn't because there was a smaller strap. We put them in our carry-on luggage and had no problem getting them through TSA. I put address labels on them so I knew they were mine and so we wouldn't forget to take them after the flight. It gave my brother and husband the extra inches they needed to feel comfortable and secure. We used them on a United Airlines flight.
