For the past 4 years I've been using the pfsense firewall on a fairly complex network configuration with multiple LANs and guest networks. I finally decided to try the USG line of products in combination with my Unifi switches and access points as the pfsense router was starting to give me stability and packet loss issues. The initial setup and implementation was a bit iffy with my existing network and subnet setup. The cloud key recognized the USG, but I found that it defaults to 192.168.1.1 (out of range for my network) which causes the deployment to fail. I ended up having to set up a workstation with an address of 192.x and SSH in the firewall to manually set an IP address on my subnet (eth0 port). After that, the injection was successful - note that usg forces itself to be xxx1 on your LAN subnet. As for the network setup, I had to recreate some of my VLANs (they were only configured for VLANs). I just created new networks for the purpose I needed (local network or guest). Setting up port forwarding was a simple task, like firewall rules. I was surprised how easy the interface is to use. Some features seem to be missing (like the NOT option in the filter rules) but I was able to move all my pfsense rules to the UI and didn't have to go back to the CLI. I've also been able to set up IPv6 rules, noticing that the controller indicates that this is an "alpha feature". I haven't noticed any stability issues so far. Although I really don't care. Having used Ubiquiti products over the years, I've always been impressed with the new features (and overall stability) they bring to the controller. Very easy to use in an environment where a pure CLI configuration (for non-commercial purposes) is overkill and too complicated for less experienced people to troubleshoot. Overall a 5 star product in my book.
