Your remote control needs new batteries to start operating! Plug in the power to the base unit and plug in the IR receiver (long thin piece). Point the remote control at the sensor from about 30 cm away and press the buttons. Your remote control should light up the (blue) LED in the sensor, if not the device will NEVER work for you. Second, take the time to experiment with the angles at which the receiver can see your remote's IR signal. This will help you position the receiver at the most effective angle and location. Third, I found that I had to play with the position of the IR emitters on the DVD player. I ended up placing the emitters where they fired the DVD player all the time and then used a small piece of black tape to attach them there. In my case with the Panasonic DVD player, this meant they had to be placed on top of the unit, slightly overhanging the IR receiver in the DVD player. So it took a little while (about 30 minutes) to get good, consistent results. But once I sorted it out, it worked really well.
