Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Gizmo Dorks: Flexible Filament Printers for Enhanced 3D Printing Supplies by John Miller

Great if you choose it

It's really cool once you figure out what it needs. It might be frustrating at first, but I am now getting consistently great results with my Flashforge Creator Pro, NO modifications are required on the extruders. Note that the latest FF heads (2015 models) have a slightly different pinch configuration that seems to work better with flex fibers. A lot of the information on the web claiming that you just can't print TPU with an FF extruder was probably written for earlier models. The secret is that you have to type SLOWLY. No slowdown! SLOWER! My settings are: extrude at 210ยฐC, bed at 70ยฐC, active nozzle cooling on (especially important for rare fills), base speed = 1000 mm/min. Yes, it's 17 mm/s. I usually print at 50-60mm/sec. It's icy, but it works. Increase the pullback to at least 6mm to relieve tension, which will also slow things down. You were in no hurry, were you? Prints are flexible but not soft unless you are printing hollow or very thin shapes. I love texture. The color is purple rather than red and is translucent but not transparent. The appearance is similar to PETG, but the surface is smoother.

Pros
  • 3D printing filament
Cons
  • Socket required
