I cut some of these in half and it was a fluffy white pulp but they are great for everyday napkins! They don't fall off your knees as easily - they're not as expensive as linen. I can throw in a load of white laundry and when it gets soiled with spaghetti sauce or used for a washcloth I still have a pile left. I stopped cutting them in half. I have washed them all before use and they are more fluffy but not even fluffy on the raw edge. I have other colors that I use for kitchen towels. I paid more for them and they were maybe an inch bigger on either side, but they are great dishcloths. These whites are great value for money and I am very happy with them. They have many uses.
