I ordered this hub because the power connector on my old modular hub failed and I really don't like the modular form factor. great features: HDMI, VGA, SD and TF card reader, gig ethernet, PD port, USB-C data and many USB-A ports. Physically, the all-metal zinc body is heavy and feels very durable. The silicone coating makes it grippy so it doesn't slip. The cable is strong and does not wear out quickly. During operation, it heats up to the touch, but does not heat up. All ports I tested work (I haven't tried VGA) with no drivers required for macOS Catalina. The gig ethernet port isn't the pop-up type I like, and I was able to get full sustained gig ethernet speeds (990Mbps) in my performance test. HDMI runs full 4K resolution at 30Hz with no hiccups. The USB3 port works stably when hot-plugging devices. I've been able to test memory cards with an external card reader at speeds of up to 250MB/s - USB3 ports support at least 5Gb/s as far as I can tell. The USB2 ports only worked if the devices (keyboard and mouse) were connected before the device was connected to the computer. When connecting USB2 devices after connecting the hub to the computer, these connectors did not work. The same devices worked when connected to a USB3. The UHS-I SD card slots worked but were very slow. In theory, a UHS-I reader can reach speeds of up to 100MB/s, but this device only claims "480Mbps" (or 60MB/s). However, in my tests with UHS-I and UHS-II cards, the built-in SD card reader could only reach speeds of 25 MB/s. This is much slower than advertised performance and much slower than a UHS-I reader should be capable of. In contrast, the same cards can reach 90 MB/s and 250 MB/s in my UHS-II USB3.0 external reader. . It's not about the cards and it's not about the Mac. I really wanted to like this hub. My main reason for purchasing this reader was to replace my previous street unit, which had too many parts to keep track of, with a nice one piece unit. For this to work, all ports need to be performing at their best to justify the size and weight. I was expecting more considering the price of this hub, so this hub isn't quite right for me. If you need a good SD card reader, look elsewhere. If that doesn't bother you, the rest of the ports seem to be working fine and this could be a good deal for you.
