Thing is great for cutting foam. I made special travel cases for my guns (the foam that came with the case allowed the magazines to slide into the firearms). I ordered heavier foam (just for the bottom of the case, left the egg crate on top as the bottom foam cutouts hold everything in place and the top just pushes against it), made templates out of poster board and cut out. I'm picky, so I made "die cuts" by threading the cutting wire through the foam with a sewing needle and then reattaching it (for the interior cutouts). The foam I order for the cutout is 1/2" less deep than half the body, and I also order 1/2" thick foam that I glue to the cutout as a backing (to allow the gun to penetrate the plastic body not touched). I hope that makes sense. So the part where the gun fits is two pieces of foam glued together after cutting off the thicker firearm/magazine piece). I've had it for a few years, now chop a lot of foam for the covers and everything works great. Also, I'm still on the original wire spool. I can't think of a way to hand cut the foam covers anymore and if I did they wouldn't look as nice.
