Good machine, runs Linux, easy to expand - two or three, but

I bought this machine to run Linux and didn't wait long to install the latest Ubuntu 21.04 . It's working well, so I upgraded to 16GB of storage using the modules I already had, plus an additional drive in the form of a 2.5" SSD on top of the built-in NVMe SSD. After removing the back cover, it went smoothly and I am completely satisfied with the result. A few warnings though: * Linux battery life is poor. I can't comment on Windows, but I only use it for about 3 hours before I need the charger again. I disabled Bluetooth and enabled the "Energy Saver" setting in Ubuntu. I haven't experimented with other Linux power management options as they tend to be more complex*. Since I need to run virtual machines, I decided to increase the RAM to 32GB. Some websites suggest that the machine can handle it. I was aware of the risk that it wouldn't work and only continued because I had another box to put the memory in. It turns out that with 32GB of memory installed, the machine would have failed the power-on self-test. It reports memory problems with two orange blinks followed by four white blinks from the power LED. Memory works found in another machine. By the way. Dell's documentation lists a maximum of 16GB, but Revain's question here says 8GB per DIMM slot. * I made the mistake of booting Windows once and connecting to the network. After that I tried to install Windows on a virtual machine using a license key from the BIOS (you can extract it on Linux, google it). Crazy Microsoft politics thwarted this attempt. If you buy this and use Linux, you'd better never boot pre-installed Windows! What I like about this laptop: + matte display with a decent 1080p resolution that works great at this size + expandability, more memory will be added later. 2 TB SSDs are cheaper + Ethernet port! + Plastic body isn't actually as thin as some reviews make it sound + Pretty good value for money What I don't like: - Sound is thin and needs a headset for video conferencing - Business laptop - USB 2.0 port on the right side only. It can get quite warm underneath - after all, this is an Intel/AMD box. Hope that helps.
