I bought this grinder in June 2007 and still enjoy using it. I'd say I've doubled my pepper consumption simply because it's so much fun grinding it in this grinder. grinding is constant. The mechanism catches the peppercorns until they are almost empty. My previous windmills, all bought at half price, broke or were destroyed falling off the countertop. This mill has already survived a nasty fall. The ring flexed a little, not like it should, but a little gentle pressure and everything was back in place. Spending money on this item wasn't easy, but I have several things that work so well. ---- Update 2021 ---- After 14 years of almost daily use, I regret to report that my windmill was stolen along with many other items while I was away for an extended period during COVID. I foolishly assumed that this model was no longer available and instead opted for the olive wood version to placate my wife's aesthetic. Unfortunately, the replacement looks nice on the outside but uses (fragile looking) plastic on the inside.
