The outfit I bought has real buttons sewn into the red pants. They seem pretty secure as my son kept wanting to pull them but they wouldn't come off. I got this outfit especially for my son's first birthday, but I believe the outfit can be worn more than once if needed. At the time of these photos. My son weighed 25 kg. and was 29 inches tall. I have a chubby baby. I bought the size 12 months and it fits great with plenty of room. The pants didn't fit his legs at all. The suspenders and bow tie are adjustable and I had to tighten both to get them to fit. In overalls my son usually wears a 24 month size, his shirts are also 24 months and his shorts are 18 months. Overall I think this outfit is a bit big. But I absolutely recommend it.
