The two handles that hold all the cards do not interlock. One should slide into the other, forming a cross. If you look at the packaging of the product (see picture), the hinge is designed differently than the product you received. I would return it, but my large child's gate doesn't fit most phones and it's difficult to find a black and white "learning" phone without making one yourself. To solve this problem you have to do the following: cut one of the two tabs on the forearm (the part that forms the X) and lower it a little with scissors (see photo). Then take the shorter side you just cut and thread it through the oval hole in the upper arm. This is how the forearm comes into the X shape but still has cleats to prevent it from slipping off balance. Pretty easy fix, just be careful not to cut everything off when you trim the edge. You could probably use a file to achieve the same result. The last photo included is the view of the child lying under the cell phone. I have used cards 0-2 months. He really loves it! I love how they give you instructions on which cards are best for each age group. To make the mobile rotate you can detach the black thread from X and attach the mobile sound block that rotates. This may require some strengthening as the string seems quite thin to support that weight.
